By launching yak leather for an exclusive limited collection of shoes, ECCO® has taken another step closer to setting new standards - merging outstanding comfort and functionality with authentic charisma.
First and foremost, yak hide is characterised by its extremely high strength. It is at least three times stronger than other cattle hides! The leather also has the additional advantage of being very abrasion-resistant - and yet very lightweight.
With its natural imperfections and distinctive markings, the authentic patina of the hide adds a rustic look, which is the hallmark of this exotic leather. No two hides are identical, and every piece of leather has its own personality - its own story.
The hallmark of yak leather is its authentic beauty. And we can maintain this unique look to our advantage by controlling the quality in our own tanneries - through a highly specialised process that preserves the natural richness and smoothness in every piece of leather.
Yak leather gives us the advantage of adding a new type of leather that enhances our efforts to merge nature and technology - a goal we are constantly pursuing to ensure that every detail in both materials and construction makes the final shoe perform at its very best.
The advantage of yak leather is that it allows us to design shoes with extra-thin, extra-light uppers - utilising the inherent strength of yak leather without compromising its unique durability and abrasion-resistant qualities. And because we can minimise the thickness of the leather, we are able to optimise its breath ability - thereby adding further foot comfort.
ECCO® only uses leather from yaks bred by farmers who first make practical use of the animals as draught and pack animals, and who then harvest not only the skins of the yaks (for use in making leather), but also their milk, meat, and wool. So the yaks are not bred solely for their leather, and every part of the animal is used. |
